I made this game during my HND year for a game Jam . I decided to upload all my game here on my studio website to reflect my game dev journey from my first year all the way to now. Enjoy :)

Leaving things behind:

This is a story/idea that started from fascination of classic movies such as Shawshank Redemption and Escape from Alcatraz. When I was little, I always dreamed that I would one day be able to make cool games with a story where you can play a characters that can survive difficult situations and in face of the unthinkable can escape and that good prevails.  In its own unique way of course, my game tries to do just that with a very short story and a bit of a short game play, without the gore and other stuff just fun and action.

This story is about a character that faced a life imprisonment for something he has never done. After doing 20 years of his life sentence, he has decided that this has been enough and wanting to escape he devised a plan to do so.

As a player you control character called Joe who must navigate prison and escape leaving behind his cell, the items he used to escape, and the prison itself.

Will he be able to make it outside the prison walls? It’s all up to you really.

About me and the game jam project:

First of all thank you to my good friend Will for helping me out with a background image. Please check out his itch io page as well: https://twistdrabbit.itch.io/

Hello, my name is Silviu, I am a second-year student of Games Development. I have decided to participate into the Game Jam Parade 2021 for the second time on my own. This time I feel (although I was late with my submission a few minutes) it went a lot better than last time.

 Having finished my first year of game development certainly helped as I was able to complete most of the code myself without having to follow tutorials or seek advice from lecturers.

[In every game jam I try and learn new things and push myself to get better at a multitude of game development skills these are the things that I feel I masted better from this game jam:

- Isometric tile maps (I had never used them before and It took me all the way up to Thursday or Friday to master them and be able to complete some levels that I was happy with) I am quite happy with how to use them as well as create assets for these tile sets. Though I got to be honest I didn't have enough time to spend on assets considering that it took me so long to master them. I decided to add some screenshots I took of my original map building just to show my learning path.

- Animations: Animations is something that I kind of struggled in the past and never quite understood them, but I can say after animating a few of my characters I am much happier now and much more comfortable with using Spriter.

- C# and problem solving I had a lot of issues from spawning items, inventory management, and problem solving was a major reason why I was even able to produce a game by the end of this game jam. I feel I have improved majorly also in my coding capabilities though I still have a lot to learn.

- Art in Asesprite: I came a long way from my first participating of my first game jam I can remember the backgrounds that I made back than so seeing my art today makes me happy to see how much I have come from where I was.

]

Over the next few days, I intend to add a few more polished things such as images for menu, UI polishes and functionality and a bit more fun in escaping the prison. I tried hard to have all the functionality there but in all off that I kind of left out the fun of interactions so I will try my best to add what I can in the next 3 days.

Thank you for choosing to play my little game.

Silv.
